Stop Overthinking Your Offerings to Hekate!

Lately I’ve been seeing a ton of new devotees spiraling over offerings. “Is this good enough?” “Will Hekate like this?” “Am I doing it right?” It’s like watching people stress themselves into a corner before they’ve even lit a candle.

Look, I get it. When you’re new to working with Hekate, you want to do things properly. You don’t want to piss off a goddess. But here’s the thing: you’re missing the entire fucking point of what an offering actually is.

I’ve covered some of this in my FAQ, but clearly it needs more attention because people are out here treating offerings like a divine pop quiz they might fail.

An offering isn’t about following some rigid rulebook or achieving perfection. It’s not a transaction where you’re trying to bribe a deity into liking you. The whole point is sincerity and intention. That’s it. That’s the secret.

Why do we even give offerings? It’s not to appease Hekate or check boxes on some cosmic to-do list. Offerings are how we express gratitude, how we honor Her presence in our lives, how we build an actual relationship with Her. They’re deeply personal acts that carry meaning from *your* heart.

Put yourself in Hekate’s position for a second. She’s a goddess who walks between worlds and sees straight through bullshit. Do you really think She gives a fuck if you brought Her eggs and garlic because some book said that’s what you’re “supposed” to do? Or would She find more meaning in something you chose because it actually matters to you? Maybe it’s a portion of your favorite meal. Maybe it’s a poem you wrote. Maybe it’s a drawing you created specifically for Her.

The intention behind the act is what makes it meaningful. Hekate isn’t sitting there with a checklist of acceptable offerings, judging whether you brought the right brand of honey. She values the love, thought, and genuine connection you put into your offering.

This is where new devotees get all tangled up. They feel this pressure to do things “right,” to follow tradition, terrified they might accidentally offend Her if their offering isn’t perfect. But what’s right for someone else might be completely wrong for you.

Yeah, eggs, garlic, honey, and wine get suggested a lot. They have historical and symbolic connections to Hekate, and if they resonate with you, they can be powerful gifts. But they’re not the only way to honor Her. They’re not even necessarily the best way for you specifically.

Think about what has personal meaning to *you*. If you write, offer Her a poem or story. If you paint or draw, create something in Her honor. That’s going to carry way more weight than a chalice of wine you grabbed from the store because you thought you had to. If you garden, a flower or herb you’ve actually grown and nurtured yourself carries your energy in it. Even a portion of your favorite meal can be incredibly meaningful when you give it with sincerity.

Offerings are about connection and gratitude. They’re your way of saying, “Thank you for walking with me, for guiding me, for being present in my life.” It’s not about the physical object. It’s about the energy behind it. When you choose or create something with love and intention, that energy comes through loud and clear, and *that’s* what Hekate recognizes and appreciates.

If you’re sitting there doubting your offering, ask yourself this: what would feel more meaningful? A gift you chose out of obligation because you read it in a book, or one you gave with actual thought and care, infused with your gratitude and love? When you frame it like that, the answer becomes pretty fucking obvious.

Hekate is a goddess of many paths and infinite connections. Her relationship with each devotee is unique, and that includes how She’s honored. Trust your instincts. What matters most is the sincerity of your heart. Whether you offer Her wine, garlic, or a heartfelt song you sang in Her honor, She’ll feel the truth in your gesture.

So let go of the pressure to get it “right.” Focus on the actual purpose of the offering instead. It’s a bridge between you and Hekate, a moment of shared connection. With sincerity and intention, every offering (no matter how small or simple) becomes a meaningful act of devotion.

Stop overthinking it. Hekate can handle whatever you bring Her as long as you’re bringing it with a genuine heart.
